Security tips

While most people who use Thebe have great success when buying, selling or connecting with others, we are aware there could be people who try to scam or defraud our users. Your safety is important to us and we believe that you can stay safe by following a few simple tips:

- Meet locally in a safe, public place to complete the transaction.
- Inspect the item before paying.
- Accept only cash – for large transactions meet in a bank.
- When sending an item through the mail, make sure that the payment you received has cleared; call your bank to make sure.
- Avoid offers that come from outside the country.
- Remember to use common sense. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

Thebe doesn't offer any sort of buyer protection or payment programs. If you are unsure about a transaction, trust your personal instincts!

But then again, don't just take our word for it, test it yourself

Update 08-04-2014 - Today security experts from all over the world announced a dangerous security leak in SSL connections to servers:

The Heartbleed Bug is a serious vulnerability in the popular OpenSSL cryptographic software library. This weakness allows stealing the information protected, under normal conditions, by the SSL/TLS encryption used to secure the Internet. SSL/TLS provides communication security and privacy over the Internet for applications such as web, email, instant messaging (IM) and some virtual private networks (VPNs).

No worries, the Thebe Advertiser was not affected by this as we run daily security updates to keep you safe!
